To Dr Mark Lawrence

Dear Dr Lawrence

Thankyou for your press release regarding the Monash mosque and the position of the Uniting Church.
For reasons not yet established, I missed this when it was released, now nearly a month ago.
The City of Monash Interfaith Gathering was naturally caught up in the controversy and overtaken by the speed of events once the the press, including The Age, got hold of it.
We submitted a resolution of support for the building application to Council prior to their meeting on 29/1 and have subsequently issued a statement to the local press explaining our responsibilities to give support to this faith group.
It is essential that we stand with our Muslim friends at this time for they were visibly upset, particularly as the site has been a place of worship for them for nearly 20 years.
On a personal note, being a member of UCA (High St Road Mt Waverley) it was an unnerving experience. The Deputy Chair of the Gathering, Mohamed Mohideen, was equally mystified and I understand he has been communicating with you.
Now we must get on with the task in hand, which is to promote dialogue and understanding in our corner of the world and hope that this will spread beyond geographic and political boundaries and touch all citizens.

Thankyou again for your words which also carry this message.

Yours sincerely
Jim Aylmer

Better close all your other schools too, oh and your churches, they may not make ends meet or make a profit! Where is your faith in God to provide? Where is your faith in his teachings through Jesus? It's a shame a letter wasn't sent too all your churches before you made the decision, to pray for a miracle, to pray for a solution, to pray for any way to fix the problem and then had trust and faith in our almighty God. Maybe you should have first turned to the bible for answers instead of making decisions out of fear with no faith. Very, very disappointing to see such little faith and belief! If you have children in another uniting school, think seriously about what faith the head of the church has in God to keep your school open, ask for a copy of their financial statements and seek clarification about the fears they have for your school instead of faith and belief in God. I will pray for all those that made this horrible decision that they one day find faith and hope in God again and start making decisions based on his teachings, from a place of love, not fear. With God, all things are possible.

Dear members of the Uniting Church community,

Since trying to replace the wonderful Acacia college with its fine teachers, parents and students, I,m finding this task more and more difficult..
I know my family have shed many tears and the feeling of abandonment is over whelming.
I pray that you wake up tomorrow morning and realize you had something really special in Acacia and work together with all of us to save what you started..

The decision made by the Uniting Church to close our school is purely commercial, and not at all in the spirit of Christianity.
My 2 children no longer have any faith in the Uniting Church, both refusing to go to Church at all if its Uniting Church. And I feel exactly the same - as do almost every other family Ive spoken with at the school.
We feel totally abandoned and misled in the most horrendous way by the Uniting Church.
