The Uniting Church in Australia’s largest event, the National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC) is recording its first ever live Music Album at a concert this weekend.
Taking place at Glen Waverley Uniting Church on June 28, young people from all over Victoria will learn new NCYC worship songs and sing along with the band to create the first live music album for NCYC 2009.
The concert is also being streamed live to Tasmania where a hundred young people will also take part in the concert.
Over 130 original songs were submitted by songwriters from across Australia, to be included in the NCYC09 songbook. Seventeen songs have been selected to record, and a 14-piece band has formed to lead the concert,
The songwriters will speak about their experience and inspirations during the afternoon rehearsals and attend the evening concert.
The CD will be released in late August, along with a limited edition DVD of the concert.
It has been 10 years since NCYC was held in Victoria and 46 years since it was in Melbourne. In January 2009 it is expected that approx 2000 young people aged 16 to 30 from around Australia and overseas, will take part in NCYC09.
During that week delegates will have the opportunity to hear internationally renowned speakers, listen to live bands and participate in electives, bible studies, and worship together in alternative and contemporary ways.
NCYC Communications Officer, Sam Charlesworth said “NCYC is more than just a one week event in January. Delegates return to homes, congregations and schools inspired and challenged by what they’ve experienced – motivated to carry out God’s will in the church and wider community.”
NCYC takes place every two years. This year it will be held between 3 and 9 January at the State Netball Hockey Centre, Melbourne.
