Derwent UC go on-line

We’re gradually ramping up the on-line presence of the Uniting Church in Tasmania.

The Derwent Cluster of UCA congregations (northern part of Hobart including Claremont-Bagdad, Glenorchy, New Norfolk and Bridgewater-Gagebrook) have joined the fold with their new website at derwentcluster.unitingchurch.org.au.

The site has been built with the support of the UCA Vic/Tas Communications & Media Services team using wordpress software. It’s a relatively easy product to get to grips with, and the team at Derwent are doing a great job finding their way.

If you’re UCA Vic/Tas congregation wants to go online with a site like this one, contact Communications & Media Services or shoot me an email and I’ll help get you moving.

And don’t forget the other places you can find UCA Tassie online – at our own website and facebook page.

  1. Thank you Scott for the plug!

We have completed a number of congregation websites in the past month and will be doing more in the coming months. So for any Tassie congregation wanting a website, we’d love to hear from you…

Website looks beautiful – lovely and simple.

However, we need to always assume that people know nothing about us, so I would suggest that the home page of the site should include something of the vision or purpose of this particular cluster or the UCA in general or the broader community of Christ! Something about journeying together with God and each other, or something else that simply and beautifully captures the essence of why we do what we do. Similarly for the congregational statements about ‘who we are’. People searching a website need some sense of the community itself, not just when and where you meet. A sense of the life of the community needs to jump out of the page. The drop-down lists under each congregation should also include all the relevant sub-headings (e.g. it looks like Glenorchy’s only sub-heading is ‘history’ but if you click on ‘Glenorchy’ there is more to it). Photos of people might be helpful as well.

Now we need to get our act together to do a website for central Hobart!

    Thanks Mary,

Good advice that I’ll pass on. The site is a starting point and I’m hoping the team continue to develop it along the lines you’ve suggested.

And I agree….time for central Hobart!
